DEMERITS OF LINE AND STAFF ORGANISATION

DEMERITS OR DISADVANTAGES OF LINE AND STAFF ORGANISATION

The followings are the demerits of line and staff organisation:

1. Expensive Method:

This form of organisation is quite expensive because the fees of different experts are to be paid which is fairly high.

2. Inappropriate:

According to some experts, this form of organisation is not appropriate for any organisation. For small organisations, it is not appropriate because it is an expensive method and for big organisations, it is not appropriate because it is not feasible to manage according to this method.

3. Dependence on Experts:

Under this form of organisation, the efficiency of the departmental head depends on experts.

4. Conflicts:

Sometimes, there is a conflict between the officers of the line cadre and the staff cadre. The officers of the line cadre feel that they are not empowered to decide on their own, and officers of the staff cadre feel that their advice is not binding so they are not sincere.

5. No Responsibility of Experts:

Under this method, the experts are not responsible for any mistake because their advice is not binding upon the officers of the line cadre.

6. Lack of Co-ordination:

The allocation of responsibility between the officers of the line and staff cadre is not clear. So, it becomes very difficult to establish the wanted co-ordination. Teamwork and harmony of work become difficult.
