MEANING OF FUNCTIONAL ORGANISATION
This form of organisation is based on the principle of specialisation. Under this form of organisation, the work is divided in such a manner that all the officers below the rank of assistant superintendents do the minimum possible work of decision making and one particular officer must be responsible for particular work so that he may be an expert in his work. Under this form of management, one particular employee is related to one officer only who gives the necessary orders and directions to him. In this form, the experts are directly in touch with the workers.
DEMERITS OR DISADVANTAGES OF FUNCTIONAL ORGANISATION
1. This form of organisation results in slackness in the discipline of the organisation.
2. In this form of organisation, a lack of coordination is found.
3. In this form, it is very difficult to determine the responsibility.
4. Under this form of organisation, an employee gets orders and instructions from many officers at one time. It causes great difficulty in the proper discharge of duties.
5. This form of organisation is not practical.
6. It is uneconomical.
7. This form of organisation causes unhealthy competition among officers of the enterprise to get more and more power.
8. This form of .organisation increases the organisation's expenses for the division of activities, the establishment of different departments etc.
