AUTHORITIES OF FUNCTIONAL ORGANISATION
F. W. Taylor has mentioned the following eight authorities in a functional organisation:
1. Gang Boss:
Gang Boss is the officer who determines the work of individual workers, makes the required raw material available, issues orders and instructions to them so that they may do their work and makes all necessary arrangements to increase their efficiency.
2. Speed Boss:
A speed Boss is an officer who takes the necessary steps to increase the working efficiency of workers. He also issues the necessary instructions and demonstrates the procedure of doing a particular work with speed so that the efficiency of workers may be increased.
3. Routine Clerk:
A routine clerk prepares the plans for routine work to be performed in the organisation. He prepares a list of the persons by whom this work will be done. He also decides how the work should be done.
4. Inspector:
Inspector is the person who checks the performance of work and sees that the work is being performed according to pre-determined standards.
5. Repair Boss:
The Repair Boss is the person who is to see the repair and maintenance of machines. He makes the necessary arrangements for keeping the machines in working condition. He also issues necessary instructions to the workers for operating the machines in a desirable manner.
6. Instructions Card Clerk:
The instructions card clerk prepares the instructions cards for the use of the planning department. On the basis of these cards, he prepares a programme and issues the necessary instructions to the officers of different departments.
7. Time and Cost Clerk:
This person is responsible for keeping the account of time and cost. He records the time taken by the workers for different activities and calculates the cost of labour on the basis of time taken for a job.
8.Shop Disciplinarian:
This person is liable for maintaining discipline in the enterprise. He enforces rules and regulations. He deals with the problems of indiscipline.
